A Little Wardrobe Perspective

I don't really want to do this, but I feel like I need to swallow my pride and share a  solid schooling I received from a tiny human. So here we go:

Earlier today I was helping the kids get ready for the morning. For our 3 y/o daughter, Raya, I got out a pretty sweet outfit consisting of pink leggings and a bigger gray Volcom t-shirt that had an bald eagle on it with a skateboard that read “Shred, White, & Blue”. It’s easily one of my favorite shirts the kids have.

I laid it out for her on the floor and turned around for a sec. She saw the clothes and started putting them on, first the pants, then the shirt. She was working on the t-shirt when I turned and saw her. Her arm was sticking out awkwardly like she was rocking a toga. The other arm was stuck inside the shirt like sausage casing. She had stepped into the neck of the t-shirt and was attempting to pull it up over her body. This BLEW my mind! Why would she do that? That is not how we taught her to put shirts on!

She was getting frustrated. I was frustrated. I responded with a poor attitude, probably because the neck of my favorite kids shirt was basically giving birth to an overdue asian baby. I helped her get it on as best I could and left the situation thinking, “That was total nonsense.”

4 hours later...

I’m helping her get ready for church after she woke up from a short nap. I show her 2 dresses to choose from. She picks this solid pink dress (one I had never seen). I go to put it on her the normal way... The t-shirt way... I then abruptly realize, this thing has bottoms to it that can’t go over her head... She takes it from my hands, puts it on the ground, steps into, and pulls it up over her body.

I’m a dingus. The lesson here? Don’t make assumptions, people!!! YOU WILL GET HUMBLED. If not now, eventually.

My Dad has always joked, "you know what happens when we assume...You make an 'ass' out of 'u' and 'me'."

That little girl gave me a silent education on perspective because my own ignorance to her wardrobe, my poor attitude, and me making assumptions 😂 😯.

In case anyone is wondering, the t-shirt neck is fine 🤦‍♂️ and she looks super cute in both outfits 😂.

The little human that loves to dance.

Every so often I write up some essays or share journal entries. The topics are typically ponderings, ideas, stories, and metaphors I'm working through in connection to God, spirituality, introspection and building meaningful relationships.

Watching sunrises (solo or with people) lights me up with this kind of stuff and I'm hoping to use this medium as a creative outlet that I can also share. Feel free to subscribe to my newsletter to see what it's all about (I'm also fond of feedback!) Thanks!
