Mary’s Little Lamb

This poem was written in 2020 as a play on the original Mary Had A Little Lamb with Jesus Christ as the center figure. It is accompanied with artwork depicting each Stanza (partially complete). It is intended as an art piece more than a traditional literary work. It will be created as a children’s board book to mimic the nature of the original children’s rhyme while having deeper meaning and scenes depicted. It is a representation of Christianity’s core story intended to be read simply. while being founded on scripture, it interweaves imagery related to the shepherding world common especially in the era of the new testament.

Mary's Little Lamb

Mary had a little lamb

His fleece was white as snow

And everywhere His Father called

The Lamb was sure to go

Once in the Temple, He was found

And Mary was distraught

But all the teachers stood in awe

From what the Lamb had taught

Mary’s Man, the carpenter

of Galilee bestowed

His craft upon the tender Lamb

As they watched Him grow

Mary’s Lamb left abroad

His Father’s will to do

To share the Word to the world

His mission to pursue

He healed, led, and raised the dead

The Lamb rose in fame

Miracles were His deeds

Messiah was He named

The Lamb’s greatest work yet to do

His fleece still white as snow

He heard the call of His Father

To the slaughter He would go

A garden first He visited

Forsook and left alone

To bear all of our pain and sin

For us the Lamb atoned

Next to a den of vicious men

As wolves in darkest form

They reviled Mary’s Lamb

Condemning Him in scorn

Then to a coward He was brought

To stand before a crowd

“Crucify Mary’s Lamb!”

Cried the Mob out loud

Into a prison went the Lamb

His lowly head held down

They scourged the gentle lamb

With thorns laid for a crown

Last to a hill He bore our cross

Nailed for all to see

The emblems of His sacrifice

The Lamb, for us, did bleed

With blood soaked fleece, Mary at His feet

She looked upon her Lamb

A fallen world her Lamb redeemed

The tokens in his hands

The pure Lamb gave His life for all

To heal the brokenhearted

To lift up the forgotten

And Light a world in darkness

3 days passed and Mary’s Lamb

Who gave His precious life

Left the hollow, stony bed

From death He did arise

The Lamb was resurrected

With healing in His wings

We too shall live again

For death has lost its sting

Mary’s Lamb is Jesus Christ

Our Savior, Our King

To raise us all in Grace and Love

His praises do we sing

Mary had a little lamb

His Fleece was White as snow...

He gave His life for YOU because your worth is great In His sight

Every so often I write up some essays or share journal entries. The topics are typically ponderings, ideas, stories, and metaphors I'm working through in connection to God, spirituality, introspection and building meaningful relationships.

Watching sunrises (solo or with people) lights me up with this kind of stuff and I'm hoping to use this medium as a creative outlet that I can also share. Feel free to subscribe to my newsletter to see what it's all about (I'm also fond of feedback!) Thanks!
